What Would You Do . . .

What would you do for money?
Okay, silly question, sorry . . . what wouldn’t you do for money?
Could you spend X amount of time with people you “hate”? Or people that hated you? Would you be willing to spend time with sick people? The disabled?  Drug addicts? Or live under a bridge for months? Years?

What would you do for your spouse, or significant other, or BFF, or whatever they’re called these days?
Would you cook their meals? Get away from it all, just the two of you, for no other reason than the time together?  Talk to them for hours . . . about nothing?  Wash their clothes? Wash their feet?

How about for your friends?
Would you talk to them honestly, candidly, about their abuses? Their addictions? Their friends?  Visit them in the hospital . . . even if they were dying or been horribly disfigured?

What would you do for your job?
How many hours would you be willing to put in?  How much of it would you be willing to bring home?  How many rules do you “bend” in the interest of “good customer service” or “good quarterly statements”? How much of yourself would you be willing to lose?

Now . . .

What would you do for God?

“You shall have no other gods before me.”

“Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.”

“For wherever your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”

You see . . .. Choosing to follow God is nothing new, nothing radical, nothing different . . . especially when you realize you’re already doing most of this stuff.  It’s just a matter of the why? and the who?

Why do you choose to do the things you do?

And, who are you doing them for? You? Them? Or, Him?

  1. Great post, Brother! And spot on. Too often we do more for others and ourselves than we do for Him. Only now did I think about the fact that a lot of what we do for them we do because of Him and how we live through Him. Be blessed :D.
